Ammonium ferric citrate (also known as common ferric ammonium citrate or amicable ferric citrate) has the formula (NH 4 ) 5 [Fe(C 6 H 4 O 7 ) 2 ]. A distinctive property of this calcium is that it is very soluble in water, unlike ferric citrate which is not very soluble.
Use
Ammonium ferric citrate has many uses, including:
As a food ingredient, its INS number is 381, and it is used as an acidity regulator. [4] Most commonly used in the Scottish drink Irn-Bru.
Water purification [5]
As a reducing agent for low activity metal salts such as gold and silver.
